Track: Soft Weather: Fine

A field of eight have accepted for the $127,250 Spring Stakes.  There is one 7 year old, two 6 year olds, four 5 year olds and one 4 year old in the field.  Five of them are first up.  The early market has narrowed this down to three key chances.  The favourite is Behemoth.  He is a two time Group 1 winner at Caulfield and won this race first up last year.

Beau Rossa is the second favourite.  He won the Group 2 Tobin Bronze in the Autumn and bolted in here first up in the SAJC Lightning Stakes.  The third of the chances is Dalasan.  He was Group 1 placed at his last two starts before spelling and maps to get a lovely run from barrier four.  Second Slip is the only remaining runner under $20-1.  He is trained on the track by Will Clarken and will be ridden by Jake Toeroek.

1. Behemoth

Two time Group 1 winner who won this race last year.  He has won four of eight first up including last preparation when he bolted in here by three lengths.  His recent trial was good and he looks a key chance again here.

2. Dalasan

Ran a cracking third in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth before spelling.  He has never finished outside of the top two in six starts at this track and is capable of sprinting fresh.  May also settle in front of the other two fancies in the run.  Each way chance.

3. Beau Rossa

Was a Group 2 winner last preparation and resumed with an easy first up win in the SAJC Lightning Stakes a fortnight ago.  Looks even more suited stepping out to 1200m second up and should to get a similar run on the map.  A major player.

4. Ritratto

Consistent son of Fiorente who has eight wins from ninteen starts but they will be too sharp for him first up here. Look for him over further.

5. Second Slip

Another one of the resumers.  He won three races during the Autumn at benchmark level.  Consider for multiples.

6. One More Jack

Knows how to win having won eight of fifteen.  He didn’t appear to handle the heavy track first up and may improve on top of the ground.  Knock out chance.

7. Perfect Route

Resumes off a break of almost 500 days.  Did some nice things in his three year old year but rather see him here first up.

8. Wurlies Lastchance

Wurlies Lastchance is a long way up in grade here.  Looking elsewhere.
