The Sandown Stakes is a Group 3 race held at Sandown over 1500 metres. The race is for horses of all ages and is run under Quality Handicap conditions. The total prize money this year is $200,000.

Sandown Stakes 2024 Preview
Track: Soft 5 Weather: Fine
Wide open affair with a host of chances. Craig does look short enough in betting but was impressive when resuming and finds the right race to go on with things. Nicolini Vito raced without much luck last start and should be an improver here. Desert Lightning is dangerous from the pole position while the market didn’t have Chrysaor winning first up but it was an ultra impressive effort and it may well be able to go right on with things in this.

Very strong effort first up and maps for a much softer run from barrier 1. Must be respected off the back of last effort and this race is well within reach.
2. Griff (2)
Should enjoy the rise in trip and maps well. Place hope at best off current form.
3. Uncle Bryn (4)
Can’t have.
4. Chrysaor (9)
Big win fresh when large odds and no reason it can’t go on with things here. Drawn perfectly for its running pattern and this race is within reach.
5. Nicolini Vito (8)
Outstanding and brave effort behind the above pick in Chrysaor and looks well placed to take this out with a kinder run in transit.
6. Savannah Cloud (6)
Loves racing here and flies second up. Best roughie of the race and maps for a good run.
7. Holymanz (7)
Racing well and unbeaten fourth up. Has solid claims in what is a wide open field.
8. Communist (10)
Flies third up but needs to find more this prep. Respect any market moves.
9. Bank Maur (11)
Flies on this track and the first up effort was very solid. Goes in the mix despite the wide draw.
10. Magnaspin (3)
Can’t have.
11. Craig (5)
Quality runner who put the writing on the wall off a break with a massive win. Tackles a much harder race here and the form behind it wa suspect but commands respect off that effort.
