Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2021 Preview
Track: Soft Weather: Showers
There are just six runners set to go around in the $300,000 Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Four are geldings and there is one mare and one entire. The early favourite in the betting is Warning. The 2019 Victoria Derby winner was heavily backed in the St Leger at Randwick last start and dually saluted. Next in the betting is Dr Drill. He was second in the Geelong Cup at his last start and is the best backed runner in early markets.
Lunar Flare has won her last two and is racing in terrific form. Wentwood won the Bendigo Cup last start. Sound has eight wins from forty three starts, while Hezashock is the least experienced horse in the field having just his seventh start. No horse is currently longer than $20-1.
Queen Elizabeth Stakes Runner by Runner
1. Warning
Returns to his home track where two of his four wins have come. Won the St Leger at Randwick last start. Keeps Nash Rawiller who is a strong rider which suits him. One of the chances.
2. Sound
Nine year old trained by Michael Moroney at Flemington. Has been within three lengths of the winner at his last three. Latest ran home strongly into third in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup.
3. Dr Drill
Looked the winner at the 200m mark in the Geelong Cup before Tralee Rose kicked back on him. Brett Prebble suggested he may of gone a bit early there as this horse only has a short sharp sprint. Looking for him to wait a little longer this time around. Leading chance.
4. Lunar Flare
Has really hit form her last two. Won the Ansett Classic at Mornington, then won the Moonee Valley Gold Cup last start. Second horse has since run fourth in the Melbourne Cup. Draws perfectly and goes well at Flemington.
5. Wentwood
Country Cups horse of the year last year. Added another one last start when winning the Group 3 Bendigo Cup. Back to Flemington suits. One of the chances.
6. Hezashocka
Ex Kiwi galloper who is now with Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr at Caulfield. Rain may help him but he is hard to have off his last run at Caulfield.
