Karrakatta Plate 2022 Preview

Track: Good   Weather: Fine

Following the early scratching of All The King’s Men, 17  runners remain for the Group 2 $500,000 Karrakatta Plate although one is an emergency as the field limit is 16. There are seven fillies, seven geldings and three colts. Six had their last start in the Listed Perth Stakes over 1100m on 19 March, six fillies in the Group 3 WATC Gimcrack Stakes over 1100m on 19 March, three in a 2YO No Metro Wins Plate over 1100m on 23 March and two in a 2YO Plate over 1200m on 12 March. Five runners are maidens. Trainer Luke Fernie has four runners while Sean & Jake Casey, Daniel & Ben Pearce and David Harrison each have two runners.

The early favourite is Amelia’s Jewel who looked impressive winning the Gimcrack by 2.5 lengths. Second favourite is Left The Building who was a narrow winner in the Perth Stakes, getting there in the final stride. Third favourite is Street Parade who finished a close 2nd behind him.

Capricorn Man was a 2 length winner of a 2YO Plate over 1200m last start.  Man Crush finished 2.4 lengths 7th in the Perth Stakes. She’s Greysful was 2.8 lengths 4th in the Gimcrack. Baby Paris  was a 1.3 length winner of an 1100m race at her only outing, while Kosta’s Crown was 0.9 length 3rd in the Perth Stakes.  All other runners are currently 30 to 1 or longer.

2022 Karrakatta Plate Runner by Runner

1. Man Crush

One of four runners for Luke Fernie. He finished 2.4 lengths 7th in the Perth Stakes and has two wins from six starts. In the mix.

2. Street Parade

Finished a close 2nd in the Perth Stakes and has a win and four places from his five starts. He is one of two runners sired by Lucky Street (the other is Lucky Sue). One of the main chances.

3. Left The Building

Another of the Luke Fernie team. He was a narrow winner in the Perth Stakes, getting there in the final stride at only his 2nd race start. Should be in the finish.

4. Capricorn Man

Nicely drawn in barrier 1 he is one of two runners for Sean & Jake Casey. He was a 2 length winner of a 2YO Plate over 1200m last start where he led all the way. Genuine contender.

5. Galaxy Affair

Drawn the outside barrier he is one of two runners for Daniel & Ben Pearce. Prefer to watch.

6. Sunny Honey

One of two runners for David Harrison, she is also one of three runners sired by Patronize (the others are Playhouse Patron and Union Jack). She has only had two starts where she won on debut then struck interference at the start and finished 5.3 lengths 8th in the Perth Stakes.

7. Kosta’s Crown

The second runner for the Caseys he is still a maiden after four starts, but did run a credible 0.9 length 3rd in the Perth Stakes. Could snag a place.

8. Playhouse Patron

Still a maiden after four starts. Has overraced at his last 2two starts when 2 length 2nd in a 2YO Plate then 1.3 lengths 5th in the Perth Stakes. Looking elsewhere.

9. All The King’s Men  – SCRATCHED

10. Amelia’s Jewel

She has only raced twice and has done everything right, She won the Listed Supremact Stakes by 2.2 lengths then looked impressive winning the Group 2 Gimcrack by 2.5 lengths. Should win but barrier 17 is a worry.

11. Costume Party

Ran 2nd in the Gimcrack and has a win and five places from six starts. One of the Luke Fernie team. Capable of getting into the money.

12. She’s Greysful

Was 2.8 lengths 4th in the Gimcrack. Not the worst.

13. Fiorucci Mama

Finished 2nd in the Supremacy then 5th in the Gimcrack. Rough place chance.

14. Penny On The Queen

Third in the Gimcrack. Outside hope.

15. Lucky Sue

Has finished well back at her last two starts. Prefer others.

16. Baby Paris

This Playing God filly was a 1.3 length winner of an 1100m race at her only outing. She led all the way and could surprise.

17e. Union Jack

Has had four runs for a 2nd and a 3rd Drawn wide and prefer others.

18e. Sweep The Leg

This colt has only had one start for 1.3 length 2nd over 1100m. Looking elsewhere.
