Track: Good 4 Weather: Fine

A field of 10 runners have accepted for the 2024 Sportsbet John Letts Cup with 9 geldings and one mare. There are two 4YOs, two 5YOs, three 6YOs, two 7YOs and one 8YO. Four runners had their last start in the Gawler Cup over 1500m at Gawler on 25th October (won by Bamyan Buddha), while the rest all came through different races. Two runners are sired by All Too Hard.

The early favourite is Arran Bay who was runner-up in the Listed Sale Cup over 1600m on 27th October last start. Second favourite is Air Assault who has 5 wins at this track and ran 10th in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield on 19th October. Third favourite is Test The Law who finished 1.2 lengths 4th in the Gawler Cup. Sir Kingswood finished 6th in the Gawler Cup, while Midnight Mass was 0.4 length runner-up in that race. All other runners are $9 or longer.

1. Air Assault (7)

This 4YO is 2 from 2 at this track and distance combination.  Has 5 wins at this track and ran 10th in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield on 19th October. Will improve here on his home track and should be in the finish.​

2. Beltoro (5)

Finished 10th at Caulfield when fresh and has since trialled well. Generally improves second-up. Not out of it.

3. Arran Bay (2)

One of 2 runners sired by All Too Hard (the other is Test The Law). Was runner-up in the Listed Sale Cup over 1600m on 27th October last start. One of the main chances.​

4. Test The Law (9)

Came from well back in the field to finish 1.2 lengths 4th in the Gawler Cup. Goes well at the track and can at least place.

5. Sir Kingsford (1)

Finished 6th in the Gawler Cup where he was drawn wide. Has the inside barrier here which will suit much better. In the mix.

6. Midnight Mass (4)

Was 0.4 length runner-up in the Gawler Cup and has strong form at Morphettville. Ran 2nd at his only try at the distance. Could surprise.

7. Montather (10)

Last-start winner over 1600m at Moonee Valley. Having his first black-type race and could place.

8. Ichibansan (8)

Returned from a 10 week freshen-up to be runner-up over 1100m at Gawler on 25th October. Big jump in distance.  Prefer to watch.

9. Red Sequoia (3)

Looks tested here.

10. Zarkana (6)

The only mare in the race. Is in great form and it wouldn’t surprise to see her in the finish.
