Race 8 at Hobart Racecourse on Sunday 12th of February 2023.

The Hobart Cup is a 2400 metre open handicap race run by the Tasmanian Racing Club in early February. It is held at Hobart as the feature event of the meeting.

FIRST ACCUSED and REBEL FACTOR look the main speed influencers, along with SIR SIMON and DARK WANDERER. MYWORDIS, ALPINE WOLF, MANDELA EFFECT and BLAZE FORTH should lob behind the speed, followed by THE INEVITABLE and JUST A TRIBUTE out the back.

Group 3 winner who brings good recent form into this. Struggles to win but meets lesser opposition here. A-grade pilot goes on and looks the one they have to beat.

Local horse that is completely airborne. If this becomes a genuine staying test he may be left wanting late but if they sit and dash late, he’s right in this.
1. Dark Dream – Rated Price $16.00
Well-backed last start and ran was plain to the eye. Doesn’t win out of turn and looks tested. Will benefit from a genuine staying contest.
1. Glass Warrior – Rated Price $12.50
Comes off a strong closing effort in the Summer Cup. This mare is running super and looks to be peaking here. Slightly sticky draw but if Chelsea Baker can navigate a passage this mare will have plenty to give late.
1. Military Mission – Rated Price $5.00
Another inter-state raider from the Gai Waterhouse-Adrian Bott yard. Finished close behind the favourite last time in and should be thereabouts again. Grand final camp who have their horses rock hard fit for these big staying races – could jump out of the ground.
1. Ain’tnodeeldun – Rated Price $6.60
Resumed beautifully at Moonee Valley last start. Has battled some soundness issues since performing well as a 3YO, but looks to be back to his best and should eat up the 2400m trip. Awkward draw to contend with but should run in the top 4.
1. White Hawk – Rated Price $41.00
Veteran stayer. Looks outclassed here off recent form but running in the first half-dozen wouldn’t shock.
1. Rising Light – Rated Price $23.00
Emerging stayer in TAS. Has put together a nice campaign and should get a nicer run in transit this run. Looks a level below the top few but can run a good race up on speed.
1. Dramazing – Rated Price $31.00
Coming off a plain run in the summer cup. Awful draw and hard to see him beating home those in the market here.
1. Travelling Gigolo – Rated Price $25.00
Local stayer who is running okay. Gets to his favoured home track but looks out of his depth here.

Maybe leads these from the wide draw on the quick-back up and tries to pinch it. Would need to emulate Lasqueti Spirit to be winning this.

Well out of his depth here. Outsider.
