Callander-Presnell 2022 Preview
Track: Soft – Heavy Weather: Shower or two
Ten runners have accepted for the $1,000,000 Callander-Presnell and there have been no early scratchings.
Formerly known as the Stan Fox Stakes, the newly named race has only had one filly in the past 18 years win this race, which was in 2004, which won’t give backers of A Lot More Love ($10.00) a lot of confidence going into this one.
The last two winners of this race came through the Golden Rose without winning it which is favourable for the three that have come through that race in Golden Mile ($1.75), Brosnan ($21.00) , and Basquait ($21.00).
Callander-Presnell Runner by Runner
1. Golden Mile (10)
He is coming off a nice win in the Caulfield Guineas when he held on by a small margin. This will be his fifth run this preparation and back to Group 2 level looks like a nice step. The draw is ordinary and he will need some luck.
2. Brosnan (6)
Just hasn’t come back as a three-year-old. Happy to go elsewhere.
3. Basquiat (4)
Another who just hasn’t taken the next step up in age, place chance at best.
4. Communist (7)
Didn’t have the greatest time last start in the Dulcify Stakes but looked like the winner before being overrun by Williamsburg. They beat the remainder of the field well and this bloke showed there is talent there. With the right run, he can win this race.
5. Flag of Honour (5)
He was just fair in the Dulcify Stakes running 2.8 lengths back in fourth. Blinkers got on first time though he won’t appreciate any rain if it comes. Place chance.
6. Burgunder (8)
Didn’t handle the conditions in the Tapp-Craig but he could get an easy lead here up in distance which could just give him an edge. Blinkers on first time is ideal and he could be a knockout chance.
7. Token Capitalist (9)
Line through his run at Newcastle last weekend as he lost the rider. Looks a tough step up in grade.
8. Field Commander (2)
Fresh off a maiden win over a mile, he could run a sneaky race from nice draw.
9. Monastery (1)
Ran third first up at Hawkesbury over the 1500m. Would need to improve.
10. A Lot More Love (3)
Going for three wins on the bounce. She is the lone filly in the field who is coming off a nice 1.8-length win in the Reginald Allen last weekend. History is against her but records were made to be broken.
