A full field of 16 runners have accepted for the 2024 XXXX Doomben Cup with 14 geldings, one mare and a filly. There is one 3YO, three 4YOs, five 5YOS, two 6YOs, three 7YOs and two 8YOs. Five runners had their last start in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes over 1800m at Sunshine Coast on 11th May (won by Numerian), two in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Cup over 1600m on 4th May (won by Just Folk) and two in the Group 1 Australian Cup over 2000m at Flemington on 30th March (won by Cascadian), while the rest came via different races. Four runners are trained by Annabel Neasham, three by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, and two each by Chris Waller, Kris Lees and Danny O’Brien.

The early favourite is Kovalica who ran 3rd in the Hollindale Stakes. Second favourite is Detonator Jack who was a close runner-up in the Hawkesbury Cup. Third favouritie is Huetor who has won this race in 2023 and in 2022 and comes off 5th in the Hollindale. Numerian was runner-up in this race last year and comes off a win in the Hollindale. Vow And Declare came 4th in the Australian Cup. Fawkner Park was a good winner of the Listed Wagga Cup over 2000m on 3rd May, while Amokura faded to finish 11th of 13 over 1500m at Rosehill when fresh. The other runners are currently $16 or longer.
