The Surround Stakes is a 1400 metre set-weights race for three-year-old fillies run by the Australian Turf Club. The race is held in late February or early March at Randwick during the Autumn Racing Carnival.

The Surround Stakes became a Group 1 race in 2018 and is held on the same day as the Chipping Norton as part of the Sydney Autumn Carnival held at Warwick Farm. The race dates back to 1979 when it was a Group 3 race and was won by Impede. In 1986 it became a Group 2 race.

Surround Stakes Preview & Tips 2018

Track: Good Weather: Fine

There is a field of 11 runners for the $500,000 James Boag’s Premium Surround Stakes and six of them had their last start in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes a fortnight ago. The short-priced favourite is Alizee who won the Light Fingers first-up and has now won 4 of her 10 starts. Second favourite is Shumookh who was a close second in the same race and third favourite is Frolic, who ran on strongly as the widest runner to grab 4th.

Shoals resumed for 8th in the G3 Kevin Hayes Stakes and this is the first time in her career she has not been in the quinella. Unforgotten is resuming here and won first-up last campaign. Melody Belle and Torvill ran 5th and 3rd respectively in the Light Fingers. The rest of the field is currently at 16 to 1 or longer.
